Sunday morning

Sunday morning
We woke to a walking band on the street below our window. It was 9:30 and church was 10:30 so we needed to get up. We got ready and walked up the cobble stone narrow road to the very old church to find the band on the steps of the church. They were wearing green Swiss-type hats with a feather. We found that this troop was celebrating in Varenna their 90th anniversary. They played during mass. The celebration continued into the park for food and wine. All were welcome. Quite a celebration.

It is a beautiful day again -about 80. We took a ferry around the lake to the different cities Bellagio, Cadenabbia, Como, Menaggio and Lecco. Eileen and I got off at Bellagio and Judy was going back for a nap. Bellagio is full of beautiful shops and restaurants along the lake. We watch for George (Clooney) but missed him. We got back onto the ferry after our gelato. Eileen says she is going to try every flavor. We got home to find Judy got home just before us. This ferry doesn't have an exact schedule. The lake itself is big, calm and so clean. You see a few sail boats drifting along and a few speed boats but no craziness. Any of these cities would be wonderful vacation spots where you can walk to almost anywhere within the cities. I think the city we stayed at, Varenna, is a bit smaller about 800 and not quite as expensive. We ate dinner at the little hotel we are staying. We had cold lake fish with basil, smoked trout tagellari. You know you are in Italy when you are here. -Joan

  1. Love reading about your travels. It sounds like everything is going great. The ferry ride sounds like a good way to see it all. I am glad you writing and that the blog is working so well. The last photo must be from your hotel window. Everything is good here.
