Monday

Monday
First, I have to say we haven't had any luck with the Internet. Hopefully, today will be the day and I will do all my postings at once.

Eileen set the alarm for 5:45 to so we can walk to the train. No time for coffee - Oh no!
We were a few minutes early and so was the train. Good luck again. Off we go back to Milan to get tickets for Bolzano. (we had to transfer in Verona to a faster, nicer train.)There was about a 45 minute transfer wait. I paid to pee here. The ride to Bolzano is very scenic - Many vineyards and mountains. It is very green.

Bolzano is a city of 800,000. It is a German speaking region in the northern part of Italy. It is an Italian city with an Austrian flair. It is among the top ranked cities when it comes to quality. It is one of the safest too. We hope that this is true.

When we got off the train we walked to our hotel. Hotel Figl. Judy booked this room and it is beautiful. It is modern and very clean. I would recommend this place to everyone. It is centrally located at the square so you can walk anywhere and it has wifi.

We had a little meat and cheese plate just a block from our hotel. We sat outside and watch the people. This is a very easy relaxed city. Lots of
bicycles that mix easily with the pedestrians and cars. It is amazing that we have not seen any accidents or someone yelling. After that we headed for a walk to see if we could find an open market or the tram to see the

Dolomites, a lime stone mountain range. We came upon an old church dedicated to the Lady of the Assumption. Its original structure dated back to the 1235 but finished at the beginning of the 15th century. After that we started seeing people in hiking boots coming towards us so went in that direction. We found the tram. Well, Judy and I aren't too fond of heights but Eileen really wanted to go up. We all went. What a bargain for 3 euros. People come here to hike. It was incredible. There is like a Swiss Alp villa, Oberbozen with stores, churches and restaurants. It appears families come here to stay and hike. The air is fresh and everything clean with a breathtaking view. This would be a great place to come and stay a while to hike and yodel.

When we return to the city, while walking home we found the open market. Lots of fresh veggies, meats, cheeses and breads. We ate dinner at a German restaurant for sausage and sauerkraut. Everything has great flavor and the portions are not so big.

This city has a wonderful feel. It is so clean and welcoming. It is a great place to come and even stay a while. It is not as expensive but great for shopping, hiking and eating. Tomorrow we head for Venice. - Chow Joan
